I can't trust my brain. I can hear your words all night in a cruel refrain. No one deserves this less than you. No, no one less than you. If death is a given thing, then life is a taken one. In a penace, in a token, and in a prayer, into a cloth that smells of musty chapel air. I can't trust my brain. I can hear your words repeat in a cruel refrain. If death is a given thing, then life is a taken one. In a penace, in a token, and in a prayer, into a cloth that smells of musty chapel air. 'Cause things are shit, but they're worse for my mother, and it's been hell on me and my brother, and I'm ashamed for waving my skinny arms to god like she's there, like she really even cares. There's no end to the list of people I'd replace you with in death. 'Cause no one deserves this less than you. No, no one less than you. No one deserves this less than you. No, no one less than you.

Shores 03:20
The ways we hurt one another, unintentional and daring, and how we shared the bed in my parents' home. How we undressed with such abandon, choked whispers falling from our mouths. And how we spoke in muted voices though we were alone in the house. The way I wax as you recede. The way I wax the balance of discomfort. Oh, the gravity of the moon over the waters within us causing us to wreck endlessly on one another's shores. You knew my intent but could not proceed. The way we waste our time with blatant disregard. The way we waste our time. The balance of conjecture. Oh, the gravity of the moon over the waters within us causing us to wreck endlessly on one another's shores. And that is all.

Pops 02:26
I know you're here with me in the feathers that you send. In dreams I hesitate to speak on mission bends. The hawks have been circling low around steady stands of trees. In dreams you're traversing states, but I know you're here with me. You are a resonating presence. Pervasive apparition glowing in my room. And now you're seasoning food with the soil from a potted plant, and making space for this was never in my plans. When I'm a raw nerve, when I'm the salted earth, you make me green. You make me green again. You are a resonating presence. Pervasive apparition glowing in my room. You've been glowing in my room. You glow, and you glow, and you glow, and you've been glowing in my room.

All this information hits me like a brick wall and I think that I would much prefer a soft transfusion. Something to buy me a little more time, like a faucet leaking. Something I will not define with your interest peaking. And it seems a shame to waste all this forward momentum. Heading out on the 7-4-3 and we're listening to Booker T and the MGs and we're taking the 28th Division Highway past the conservancy and I am following my father, he's a length ahead of me. And it seems a shame to waste all this forward momentum. And it seems a shame to waste all this good stock and acreage. And we can wait to clean our slates until we're all in better states.

Loss 02:49
My knees are groaning like worn out floorboards, and I wonder what yours are like anymore. You're under well-worn comforters sleeping off the last two days beneath a pile of dogs in a room of his things that you can't throw away. But you can keep him with you. Yeah, you can keep him with you. Evening shadows fall on old photos of the two of you that you've been digging through. So I hope you know that no amount of ink, or smoke, or the stiffest drinks can drive back those shadows as they cover your floor but you can open the bedroom door And know we are with you. Know we are with you.

about

Loss is a four letter word, and in it lies a duality; it is vulgar and cruel, but also necessary and beautiful. It envelopes all aspects of life: the social, the environmental, the personal, the objective, and the existential. The simultaneous feelings of emptiness and crowdedness that accompany severe loss are both quixotic and paradoxical. On this five song EP, Earth Telephone explore the thematic weigh-stations of extreme personal loss.
